September 28, 2026

A reel gets about 24 hours before nobody sees it again, and a Pinterest pin peaks after 24 months. Nadalie Bardo, Your Pin Coach, opened with that comparison, and she had so much to share that this turned into the first two-part series we can remember doing.
Nadalie was a wedding and portrait photographer right up until the wedding where another woman showed up in a wedding dress. She started her blog in 2016, posted everywhere, and got nothing back until she noticed Pinterest kept coming up in other creators’ income reports. She studied a couple of accounts, made a plan, and hit a million pin views within 30 days, and in 2019 she created her course, Pin Popular.
This week covers the foundations: personal versus business accounts, where your keywords go, which pin types still work, the metrics worth checking, and how often to pin. Melissa pulls up a pin she created in December 2014 that’s still getting impressions, and Alison admits she has hundreds of pins out there and has never looked at her analytics. Part two next week gets specific to local photographers.

00:00:00 [Alison]
Hey, guys.
00:00:01 [Alison]
Welcome back to the show.
00:00:02 [Alison]
I’m super pumped for today because it’s gonna be one of two.
00:00:06 [Alison]
I don’t know that we’ve ever done this before, had a two part series.
00:00:09 [Alison]
But today we’re talking all about Pinterest with Natalie, your pin coach, which is its own story.
00:00:15 [Alison]
I love that.
00:00:16 [Alison]
So, Natalie, welcome to the show.
00:00:17 [Alison]
Tell us about yourself.
00:00:18 [Nadalie]
Thanks so much for having me, Melissa and Alison.
00:00:21 [Nadalie]
Hey, y’all.
00:00:22 [Nadalie]
I’m your pin coach.
00:00:24 [Nadalie]
And I honestly would say I probably started similar to you.
00:00:27 [Nadalie]
Actually, back in the day, I was a photographer.
00:00:30 [Nadalie]
I was a wedding photographer, a portrait photographer.
00:00:33 [Nadalie]
I was right.
00:00:34 [Nadalie]
I got my DSLR just behind this wall, collecting dust, sadly.
00:00:39 [Nadalie]
Yes.
00:00:39 [Nadalie]
Because my photography days are over.
00:00:41 [Nadalie]
I’ve seen way too much crazy stuff at what at, like, weddings.
00:00:44 [Nadalie]
I was like, this is not for me.
00:00:47 [Alison]
It’s not for me either.
00:00:48 [Alison]
It’s not for me either.
00:00:50 [Melissa]
I did it for, like, ten years, and it was, like, weekends back.
00:00:53 [Alison]
Okay.
00:00:53 [Alison]
I see another episode here of, like, the things you’ve seen, like or things you’ve had to put into contracts because of the things you’ve seen.
00:01:00 [Nadalie]
Teaser, another woman showed up in a wedding dress.
00:01:04 [Nadalie]
That’s all I’m saying.
00:01:06 [Nadalie]
And I was like, this is it.
00:01:08 [Nadalie]
We’re good.
00:01:09 [Nadalie]
Wow.
00:01:10 [Melissa]
Oh my gosh.
00:01:11 [Alison]
Okay.
00:01:11 [Alison]
There’s a story there.
00:01:13 [Alison]
Awesome.
00:01:13 [Alison]
Okay.
00:01:15 [Nadalie]
But okay.
00:01:15 [Nadalie]
Beyond the photography, I you know, my other origin story is as a blogger and a content creator, and that’s how Pinterest.
00:01:25 [Nadalie]
I started my blog back in 2016.
00:01:27 [Nadalie]
It’s been a decade.
00:01:29 [Nadalie]
And like many of you, I quickly realized that my biggest challenge was getting actual clicks to my site.
00:01:36 [Nadalie]
I think we can get so wrapped up in, I have to make the website pretty.
00:01:39 [Nadalie]
I have to do all of this.
00:01:40 [Nadalie
I have to do all of that.
00:01:41 [Nadalie]
But then you get there and you’re like, hello?
00:01:45 [Nadalie]
Is this thing on?
00:01:46 [Nadalie]
Right.
00:01:48 [Nadalie]
So, you know, like, I think a lot of people will always give you the advice.
00:01:51 [Nadalie]
The advice has not changed, and it’s always people who don’t know what they’re talking about who wanna give you advice.
00:01:55 [Nadalie]
Like, are you on Instagram?
00:01:57 [Nadalie]
I’m not saying don’t be on Instagram, but Right.
00:01:59 [Nadalie]
I feel like if you tell someone you’ve started a blog or a business, they’re like, get on TikTok.
00:02:05 [Nadalie]
Do this.
00:02:05 [Nadalie]
Do that.
00:02:06 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:02:06 [Alison]
And Do everything.
00:02:08 [Nadalie]
Tik yeah.
00:02:09 [Nadalie]
Like, TikTok didn’t exist then.
00:02:11 [Nadalie]
No.
00:02:12 [Nadalie]
But I was posting everywhere.
00:02:14 [Nadalie]
And guess what happened?
00:02:15 [Nadalie]
Nothing.
00:02:17 [Nadalie]
I had discovered Pinterest by reading a lot of other creators’ income reports.
00:02:23 [Nadalie]
Like, that used to be a really popular thing that happened back in the day.
00:02:26 [Nadalie]
People would publish and break down where their money came from, where their traffic came from.
00:02:31 [Nadalie]
And I noticed a trend that everyone was saying Pinterest.
00:02:34 [Nadalie]
So I was like, okay.
00:02:36 [Nadalie
What is this thing?
00:02:36 [Nadalie]
What’s this thing?
00:02:37 [Nadalie]
I never used it as a per like, as a personal person.
00:02:41 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:02:41 [Nadalie]
I was just like, okay.
00:02:42 [Nadalie]
Let me check it out.
00:02:44 [Nadalie]
So I analyzed a couple accounts.
00:02:45 [Nadalie]
I made a plan.
00:02:47 [Nadalie]
I launched.
00:02:48 [Nadalie]
And within thirty days, I was at a million views, and I was like, okay.
00:02:51 [Alison]
Wow.
00:02:52 [Alison]
Million views of what?
00:02:53 [Alison]
Your pins or your website?
00:02:54 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:02:54 [Nadalie]
Of my pins.
00:02:55 [Nadalie]
Of my pins.
00:02:56 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:02:56 [Nadalie]
Dang.
00:02:57 [Nadalie]
And my traffic went from being flatlined to coming alive.
00:03:02 [Nadalie]
I was gaining subscribers.
00:03:04 [Nadalie]
People were buying my planner, and I was like, okay.
00:03:07 [Nadalie]
We found the thing.
00:03:09 [Nadalie]
Blogging friends were like, you need to teach this.
00:03:12 [Nadalie]
So in 2019, I created my course Pin Popular.
00:03:16 [Nadalie]
It’s been evolved many times since then.
00:03:20 [Nadalie]
But, yeah, I’ve been all in on Pinterest since almost ten years ago, and I have not looked back.
00:03:27 [Nadalie]
And in today’s world, like, I’ve been posting on, you know, Instagram, on TikTok.
00:03:33 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:03:33 [Nadalie]
I’ve been doing shorts.
00:03:35 [Nadalie]
It does so quickly.
00:03:37 [Nadalie]
What is what are we doing?
00:03:40 [Nadalie]
What is Why are we doing this?
00:03:43 [Nadalie]
Literally twenty four hours.
00:03:45 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:03:46 [Nadalie]
And ain’t nobody seeing your beautiful reel.
00:03:50 [Nadalie]
Twenty four hours, y’all.
00:03:52 [Nadalie]
I know.
00:03:53 [Nadalie]
But pins, like spoiler alert, a Pinterest pin peaks after twenty four months.
00:03:59 [Alison]
Oh, wow.
00:04:00 [Nadalie]
Peaks.
00:04:00 [Nadalie]
So peaks.
00:04:02 [Nadalie]
Wow.
00:04:02 [Nadalie]
Okay?
00:04:03 [Nadalie]
So we are comparing.
00:04:04 [Nadalie]
That’s what we’re comparing.
00:04:06 [Nadalie]
What you can get for twenty four hours versus what you can get for twenty four months.
00:04:11 [Nadalie]
That’s the
00:04:12 [Alison]
That’s and and it’s not really even a debate.
00:04:15 [Alison]
No.
00:04:15 [Alison]
It’s really.
00:04:16 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:04:16 [Alison]
It’s a discussion.
00:04:17 [Nadalie]
Yet somehow, everyone still has energy for Instagram marketing.
00:04:21 [Nadalie]
But, you know, when we talk about Pinterest, it’s like, oh, isn’t Pinterest dead?
00:04:26 [Nadalie]
Y’all Instagram is dead.
00:04:27 [Nadalie]
Can we like, it might still be working for some people, but they’ve actually done studies that show, like, organic reach is declining.
00:04:39 [Nadalie]
So, like, what are we talking about here?
00:04:41 [Nadalie]
Well, like
00:04:42 [Alison]
Wasn’t wasn’t it a it was a podcast I was listening to, but in the whole lawsuits and, testifying from Meta about some of their stuff going on recently, they admitted in a court of law, their organic reach is Facebook is dying.
00:04:58 [Alison]
Instagram is dying.
00:04:59 [Alison]
Like, they’ve said that in a, like, in a court of law that it’s it’s going away for sure.
00:05:05 [Alison]
Like, they’re trying to figure out they’re grappling for how to retain viewers.
00:05:09 [Alison]
Right?
00:05:11 [Alison]
So wow.
00:05:12 [Alison]
I feel very seen, though.
00:05:13 [Alison]
Like, I think Instagram is fun.
00:05:15 [Alison]
Moment of fun that keeps you on the app, but you’re absolutely right.
00:05:20 [Alison]
Like, what what are we doing?
00:05:21 [Alison]
What are we doing?
00:05:23 [Alison]
Well, before we get too far ahead, Melissa, how did you do you use Pinterest personally?
00:05:28 [Alison]
How do you how did you start it?
00:05:30 [Melissa]
How did you get
00:05:30 [Alison]
started with that?
00:05:31 [Melissa]
I feel like I mean, I started my business in 2009.
00:05:37 [Alison]
Oh.
00:05:38 [Melissa]
And I’m pretty sure whenever Pinterest came on the scene, like, I was on it.
00:05:43 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:05:43 [Melissa]
And so and obviously, I did weddings.
00:05:45 [Melissa]
So, actually, I was, like, I was trying to find my analytics, and then I’m like, how far back did I go?
00:05:49 [Melissa]
But it only shows, like, ninety days on this.
00:05:51 [Nadalie]
Because I’m
00:05:52 [Melissa]
like, how far back have I gone on Pinterest?
00:05:54 [Melissa]
I mean, I go back so far that actually, yeah, I can see one.
00:05:57 [Melissa]
Even in the so this is a pin that I posted.
00:06:01 [Melissa]
I it was created 12/30/2014.
00:06:04 [Melissa]
And in the last ninety days, it’s had 4,000 impressions from a post that’s from 2014.
00:06:11 [Nadalie]
Exactly.
00:06:12 [Nadalie]
Like, see?
00:06:13 [Nadalie
Like, what and I always say that point any post on social media.
00:06:21 [Nadalie]
Pinterest isn’t social media, by the way.
00:06:23 [Alison]
It’s not.
00:06:23 [Nadalie]
That is doing anything for you.
00:06:26 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:06:26 [Nadalie]
From even 14, like, days ago.
00:06:29 [Melissa]
It’s so crazy.
00:06:30 [Melissa]
I mean, I know I have another post, that was really popular for me, and it was oh, yeah.
00:06:36 [Melissa]
How to create, it was like a staircase gallery wall that I did a blog post on and then posted on Pinterest.
00:06:42 [Melissa]
And I remember getting an inquiry from somebody in Romania because they wanted me to design a staircase gallery wall for them.
00:06:48 [Melissa]
And I was like, wow.
00:06:49 [Melissa]
Like
00:06:49 [Alison]
How would that even work tax legality?
00:06:52 [Alison]
Like I
00:06:52 [Melissa]
I don’t know.
00:06:53 [Melissa]
But it was one where, at the time, I think I just had my second kid back to back kinda thing.
00:06:57 [Melissa]
So I was like, no.
00:06:58 [Melissa]
But that she found me on Pinterest.
00:07:00 [Melissa]
You know?
00:07:00 [Melissa]
She found me.
00:07:00 [Melissa]
And I was like, that’s awesome.
00:07:02 [Melissa]
So I love Pinterest.
00:07:04 [Melissa]
I mean, I have another pin I can see that I’ve had, like, almost 60,000 impressions in the last ninety days, and I’m like, that’s crazy.
00:07:11 [Alison]
We are similar and not similar at the same time because I got started in Pinterest when it was in beta.
00:07:16 [Alison]
And I I’m very, very clear on everything.
00:07:18 [Melissa]
Like, I was getting it in beta when I went in.
00:07:20 [Alison]
It was in beta because I was planning my now 16 year old’s first birthday
00:07:26 [Melissa]
Mhmm.
00:07:26 [Alison]
In 2010.
00:07:28 [Alison]
So he was born January 2010, and so this would have been, like, fall time frame, for of of the 2010 planning for his upcoming birthday party.
00:07:38 [Alison]
And I was blog I was going through all these blogs.
00:07:40 [Alison]
Right?
00:07:40 [Alison]
And y’all y’all gotta remember this was before screenshots.
00:07:43 [Alison]
This was before I had an iPhone.
00:07:45 [Alison]
This was a solid 3.5 before I had an iPhone, but they were available.
00:07:48 [Alison]
But there was, like, we were still in the magazine ripping it put it in a book like collage days.
00:07:56 [Alison]
Anybody like crickets y’all don’t even know what I’m talking about.
00:07:58 [Melissa]
No I know yeah.
00:07:59 [Alison]
That was right like that was your level of of planning.
00:08:02 [Alison]
You went to a library, you got a design book, or you used magazines and ripped them up and made collages and books and stuff,
and I still have that stuff.
00:08:09 [Alison]
And so when I was going through all these blogs doing this kind of like design idea gathering digitally for the first time, not on an iPhone but on an actual computer, And everybody kept like, every blog had this, like, find me on Pinterest, follow me on Pinterest, like, button.
00:08:24 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:08:24 [Alison]
Pin it, pin it, pin it button.
00:08:25 [Alison]
And I was like, what the heck is this?
00:08:26 [Alison]
And so I went and requested to be added in beta.
00:08:30 [Alison]
And I guess a few weeks later I was, and I still have that board of Owen’s first birthday and so many more.
00:08:37 [Alison]
But I didn’t start using it for business until many years later.
00:08:41 [Alison]
I was shooting, like, not professionally, but amaturing, at that time.
00:08:46 [Alison]
But I didn’t start using it for business for many, many years later.
00:08:50 [Alison]
But unlike you, Melissa, I’m really good at pinning things and then never looking at it again.
00:08:55 [Alison]
So that’s my risk for me.
00:08:56 [Alison]
I’m probably gonna make you cringe.
00:08:58 [Alison]
Like, I’ve got probably hundreds of pins out there.
00:09:01 [Alison]
I’ve never looked at those analytics.
00:09:03 [Alison]
I have no idea what’s happening at all.
00:09:06 [Alison]
Help us.
00:09:08 [Alison]
Help us.
00:09:09 [Alison]
So for today’s episode, we really wanna focus on what’s true for everybody about printers.
00:09:14 [Alison]
Right?
00:09:14 [Alison]
We want to get your, like, master class on everything from the foundations to the traffic to the to the mindset and measurement.
00:09:22 [Alison]
Right?
00:09:22 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:09:22 [Melissa]
Probably starting off with the question right now of personal versus business.
00:09:27 [Melissa]
Or if I’ve started and I have a personal account, do I convert it?
00:09:30 [Melissa]
Do I set up a second account for a business?
00:09:32 [Melissa]
Like, I’m just I don’t know how any of that has changed, and I know, like, I’ve had to evolve over the years.
00:09:37 [Melissa]
So you start just off the bat for somebody who maybe has used it personally for a while.
00:09:42 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:09:43 [Nadalie]
So, typically, honestly, there’s no 100% right answer.
00:09:47 [Nadalie]
It’s just, like, what’s gonna work for you?
00:09:51 [Nadalie]
So I would say that you wanna convert it.
00:09:53 [Nadalie]
Like, if you have a personal, convert it if you’ve been already using it as your pseudo business account.
00:09:58 [Nadalie]
Like, I think many people are using their personal accounts.
00:10:02 [Nadalie]
They’re
00:10:02 [Alison]
Mhmm.
00:10:03 [Nadalie]
You know, sharing their work, sharing their blog posts.
00:10:05 [Nadalie]
Maybe they already have the username they want.
00:10:08 [Nadalie]
Mhmm.
00:10:09 [Nadalie]
Also, have a lot of followers because I would say one of the biggest shift I’ve seen in the last year and bit is that follower growth has really just, like, decreased massively.
00:10:21 [Nadalie]
I think, it was a lot easier in the past to just organically gain followers on Pinterest.
00:10:27 [Nadalie]
Not that followers necessarily matter that much, but I will say if you already have followers, why not just keep them with you?
00:10:34 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:10:35 [Nadalie]
If you’ve already been using it as your business account without it being a business account, avert it.
00:10:42 [Nadalie]
And if you have personal things, just tuck those away into a secret board, especially if you don’t wanna have to deal with multiple accounts.
00:10:50 [Nadalie]
It really just depends the type of person you are.
00:10:53 [Nadalie]
Like, are you the type of person who doesn’t want their food touching on the plate, or do you like to swish it together?
00:10:59 [Nadalie]
Like, it’s just That’s a great analogy.
00:11:03 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:11:03 [Melissa]
I think when I did my like, I cleaned up my personal ones so it would be like you know?
00:11:08 [Melissa]
So that way, it’s like, okay.
00:11:09 [Melissa]
Well, I have some personal ones for cooking and stuff like that, but then got their own little names and stuff that are separate from then the boards I created for the business type thing.
00:11:18 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:11:19 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:11:19 [Melissa]
Because, otherwise, yeah, it’s that food touching is a funny analogy on it.
00:11:24 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:11:24 [Nadalie]
Like, just choose whichever works for you.
00:11:26 [Nadalie]
It’s super quick to convert it or create a new one.
00:11:30 [Nadalie]
Personally, I would choose convert.
00:11:32 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:11:33 [Nadalie]
But I’m a smoosh it altogether type of person.
00:11:36 [Nadalie]
And, yeah, that’s where I would start.
00:11:39 [Nadalie]
And totally cool if you all need to sign up for a new account.
00:11:42 [Nadalie]
No worries there.
00:11:43 [Nadalie]
It’s the similar steps that you would take when you sign up for anything.
00:11:47 [Nadalie]
Mhmm.
00:11:48 [Nadalie]
I would just encourage you to stick with your brand name or if you are a personal brand.
00:11:54 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:11:55 [Nadalie]
So just make it consistent.
00:11:58 [Nadalie]
Choose the handle if it’s available that you already have on every other platform.
00:12:04 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:12:04 [Nadalie]
Choose the photo that’s recognizable.
00:12:05 [Nadalie]
Mhmm.
00:12:07 [Nadalie]
I think, you know, putting those things in place.
00:12:10 [Nadalie]
And especially if you are a regional or local photographer, you’re gonna wanna make sure writing your bio, you are including, like, your city or the region that you Yeah.
00:12:21 [Nadalie]
Service.
00:12:21 [Melissa]
The next question.
00:12:22 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:12:23 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:12:23 [Nadalie]
Put it in your bio.
00:12:27 [Nadalie]
Put it in your banner image.
00:12:29 [Nadalie]
Like, I think there’s so many places you can organically plug, like, where you’re at, especially as a photographer because, you know, I’m sure some of some of you travel, but, like, you usually have an area that is yours.
00:12:44 [Alison]
Your domain.
00:12:45 [Alison]
What what are some of those big mindsets when it comes to working with Pinterest over other actual social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook?
00:12:52 [Alison]
What do we need to how do we need to think differently?
00:12:55 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:12:55 [Nadalie]
I think we need to, one, lock in that it’s a social it’s not social media.
00:13:02 [Nadalie]
So many of the mindsets or the actions that we’re used to having to take on social media, we don’t have to take those on Pinterest.
00:13:11 [Nadalie]
And I would say that some of those actions are actually not recommended for pin so, like, when we’re talking about social media, things that we have to do is, like, you have to go like, there’s a live element to growing on, like, Instagram, for example.
00:13:31 [Nadalie]
Whereas I think Pinterest is still very much an introvert’s paradise where you can accomplish a lot by just scheduling, by not having to be on or even to be social at all.
00:13:43 [Nadalie]
Like, we are not messaging people.
00:13:46 [Nadalie]
We’re not commenting on people’s posts, and I’d say that it’s almost a relief.
00:13:52 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:13:53 [Nadalie]
Like, so many of the things that you’ve been conditioned to think you have to do to gain growth, they’re not even a conversation starter when we shift to Pinterest.
00:14:04 [Nadalie]
And, you know, I I’d say that Pinterest users click.
00:14:08 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:14:09 [Nadalie]
And on many platforms, you can’t even get a click.
00:14:13 [Nadalie]
So I think that’s the other shift is you have the control to just send people where you wanna send them.
00:14:20 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:14:21 [Nadalie]
So you wanna show off that shoot you had last weekend or that, portrait session at this landmark or, you know, like, how to plan a wedding day around your fur or whatever it is, like a, you know, a shoot a shot list.
00:14:36 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:14:36 [Nadalie]
Like, whatever it is, you’ve gotta share with the world.
00:14:39 [Nadalie]
You can just add the link.
00:14:42 [Alison]
Yes.
00:14:43 [Alison]
That’s what I like to hear.
00:14:44 [Alison]
That’s what I like to hear.
00:14:45 [Alison]
That’s awesome.
00:14:46 [Alison]
Okay.
00:14:46 [Alison]
So moving on to some of the content of of Pinterest.
00:14:50 [Alison]
What is the difference between the stand alone pen, which I think we’re all familiar with, versus the idea pen versus the video pen versus whatever pen of the week it is flavor right now?
00:14:59 [Nadalie]
So idea pins are dead.
00:15:01 [Alison]
Okay.
00:15:02 [Alison]
Okay.
00:15:02 [Alison]
Dead for
00:15:03 [Melissa]
a couple.
00:15:03 [Melissa]
So
00:15:05 [Nadalie]
Before they were the idea pin, they were the story pin.
00:15:07 [Nadalie]
This was when Pinterest was having an identity crisis, and they’re like, okay.
00:15:11 [Nadalie]
We’re like Instagram too.
00:15:12 [Nadalie]
And we’re like, no.
00:15:13 [Nadalie]
You’re not.
00:15:14 [Nadalie]
You’re Pinterest.
00:15:15 [Nadalie]
Just be Pinterest.
00:15:16 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:15:16 [Nadalie]
Right.
00:15:17 [Nadalie]
Just do you.
00:15:18 [Nadalie]
Thankfully yeah.
00:15:19 [Nadalie]
Thankfully, they’ve kind of, like, snapped out of it.
00:15:22 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:15:22 [Nadalie]
The only way to run an idea pin now is as an ad, and y’all ads are not my purview.
00:15:28 [Nadalie]
I’m all about free clicks with organic marketing.
00:15:33 [Nadalie]
So very much it is static pin.
00:15:37 [Nadalie]
Video pins also, I would say, like, when the idea pin kinda went away, I also noticed that a lot of the video pins that had like, a lot of those TikTok style videos
00:15:50 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:15:50 [Nadalie]
Have been taking over Pinterest, and I would say that that’s been dialed down also.
00:15:56 [Nadalie]
So good news, it’s just an image.
00:16:00 [Nadalie]
Like, especially for photographers, it’s gonna be those stunning shots that is you get you the clicks and people saving it to their vision boards, which is just less work for you.
00:16:13 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:16:13 [Nadalie]
Like
00:16:14 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:16:14 [Nadalie]
This is stuff you already have.
00:16:17 [Nadalie]
And I’m not saying you can’t post video pins.
00:16:20 [Nadalie]
If you are but I wouldn’t say, like, go out of your way.
00:16:23 [Nadalie]
So if you’re already making short videos, amazing.
00:16:26 [Nadalie]
Repurpose those on Pinterest.
00:16:28 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:16:28 [Nadalie]
But if you’re not, I’m not saying you need to add that to your to do list for Pinterest.
00:16:34 [Alison]
That’s what we wanna hear.
00:16:36 [Alison]
Right?
00:16:36 [Alison]
And we all agree with sigh of relief.
00:16:39 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:16:39 [Melissa]
With those static ends, do you recommend having, like, the title or something about like, let’s say it’s a blog post that I’m pinning.
00:16:48 [Melissa]
And instead of just pinning, like, we’ll just go with the weddings, a picture of a bride.
00:16:52 [Melissa]
Should it be a picture of the bride with, like, the little the title over the actual image that says, you know, like, top five bridal dresses of 2026 or something like that?
00:17:00 [Melissa]
Or should that be the title of the
00:17:02 [Nadalie]
If that’s what the content is.
00:17:04 [Melissa]
Yes.
00:17:04 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:17:04 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:17:05 [Nadalie]
So when it comes to, like, what type of pin am I gonna post?
00:17:08 [Nadalie]
Is it just an edge?
00:17:09 [Nadalie]
Is it gonna be, like, I need to call those, like, a title pin?
00:17:12 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:17:13 [Nadalie]
It depends on what you’re sharing.
00:17:15 [Nadalie]
Typically, content like, if you’re linking to content, we’re talking blog posts, YouTube videos, podcast episodes, I guess, substack.
00:17:24 [Nadalie]
We’re gonna throw that in there now.
00:17:26 [Nadalie]
You wanna have some text because it needs
00:17:29 [Melissa]
context.
00:17:30 [Melissa]
Right.
00:17:30 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:17:30 [Nadalie]
Like, an image doesn’t necessarily say, like, this is a post about five wedding dresses.
00:17:36 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:17:36 [Melissa]
Right.
00:17:37 [Alison]
If
00:17:38 [Nadalie]
it’s more of a portfolio, shoot portfolio, like, individual or in general Mhmm.
00:17:45 [Nadalie]
You can probably get away more with just images.
00:17:48 [Nadalie]
But even for blog posts, I have seen, especially in the wedding niche, it’s dominated by just photo only.
00:17:55 [Nadalie]
The place where you’re saying what that is is gonna be in your pin title, your pin description.
00:18:00 [Nadalie]
Your link is gonna say a lot as well.
00:18:02 [Nadalie]
But, the way to know is to look at the actual search results.
00:18:08 [Melissa]
Oh, okay.
00:18:09 [Nadalie]
So, like, what is your what is your post about?
00:18:12 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:18:13 [Nadalie]
Hop in the search bar, type in that keyword, like wedding trends for spring.
00:18:18 [Nadalie]
I don’t know.
00:18:19 [Nadalie]
I’m just making this up.
00:18:20 [Nadalie]
Wedding I
00:18:20 [Melissa]
was thinking about it.
00:18:21 [Melissa]
I was like, we should switch to portrait photographer stuff because that’s what looks so hard.
00:18:25 [Melissa]
Portrait.
00:18:27 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:18:27 [Melissa]
Or, like, newborn maternity, anything like that.
00:18:29 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:18:30 [Nadalie]
So let’s just do, like, maternity photoshoot ideas.
00:18:35 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:18:35 [Nadalie]
So I’m searching that right now.
00:18:38 [Nadalie]
And what am I seeing?
00:18:39 [Nadalie]
Unfortunately, I do feel like some of these are AI images.
00:18:43 [Melissa]
Oh, and just a sidebar on that.
00:18:45 [Melissa]
Can’t isn’t there a setting you can go into in Pinterest now and say, like, don’t show me AI or something like that?
00:18:51 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:18:51 [Nadalie]
When you sign up for a new account, they actually do ask you, do you wanna see AI pins?
00:18:57 [Nadalie]
And I do love that.
00:19:00 [Nadalie]
And, yes, you can opt out.
00:19:02 [Nadalie]
And I really hope that we get to a point where the slop is really handled.
00:19:08 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:19:09 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:19:09 [Nadalie]
You know, unfortunately, AI I think people this is another, issue I feel like I’m having where a negative mindset that people have about Pinterest is like, oh, it’s just AI slop.
00:19:22 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:19:23 [Nadalie]
But I’m like, what isn’t?
00:19:25 [Melissa]
Right.
00:19:25 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:19:26 [Nadalie]
Like, point me to a platform that isn’t currently being overrun by AI slop.
00:19:32 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:19:33 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:19:33 [Alison]
So
00:19:34 [Melissa]
To mention, if yours is real, it’s going to stand out against the AI slot.
00:19:38 [Melissa]
But I definitely, like especially, I love going on Pinterest for home decor stuff, and nothing makes me madder than seeing, like, a gorgeous room that I’m like, well, that’s AI.
00:19:45 [Melissa]
None of that’s real, and I really wanted that cap.
00:19:47 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:19:48 [Nadalie]
So in your settings, you would go to like, it’s currently called refine your recommendations, and there’s AI content.
00:19:57 [Nadalie]
And you literally can just turn off based on their listing, like, 10, categories here of content, architecture, art, beauty, entertainment.
00:20:08 [Nadalie]
You just turn all that off if
00:20:10 [Melissa]
you want to see.
00:20:11 [Melissa]
This is gonna be the thing for the everybody on this episode is like, thank you for saving me from the AI slump on Pinterest.
00:20:17 [Nadalie]
Yeah
00:20:17 [Nadalie]
So back to those actual search results, though.
00:20:20 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:20:21 [Nadalie]
For that, I’m just seeing it’s dominated by the one shot pose.
00:20:27 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:20:27 [Nadalie]
And Mhmm.
00:20:28 [Nadalie]
There’s if I’m scrolling, a couple of them do have text on it, like what to wear for maternity photos, wildflower field maternity photoshoot, you know, 12 outdoor.
00:20:39 [Nadalie]
So if you’re like, okay.
00:20:40 [Nadalie]
Does this need text?
00:20:42 [Nadalie]
Doesn’t it?
00:20:43 [Nadalie]
The place that’s gonna tell you is the actual search results for that keyword because there’s no, like, one answer for every search query.
00:20:53 [Melissa]
Right.
00:20:53 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:20:54 [Nadalie]
Yep.
00:20:54 [Nadalie]
The algorithm is deciding what users wanna see.
00:20:58 [Nadalie]
So if the algorithm is saying for this key users wanna see a photo, that’s what it’s gonna rank.
00:21:05 [Nadalie]
If they’re saying no, they wanna see a title pin, or they wanna see an infographic, or some keywords, it’s also is a video pin.
00:21:14 [Nadalie]
I’ve seen a lot of video pins ranking for home decor stuff sometimes.
00:21:18 [Nadalie]
Uh-huh.
00:21:19 [Nadalie]
So the only way that you are gonna know is to literally go check the search results.
00:21:25 [Alison]
And look, which which is something we teach often.
00:21:28 [Alison]
Like, just to reiterate, this is keyword and keyword research to Pinterest the same way you would keyword research your content for a blog.
00:21:37 [Alison]
Yep.
00:21:37 [Alison]
It’s the same thing.
00:21:38 [Alison]
Just a different platform.
00:21:38 [Alison]
It’s a
00:21:39 [Nadalie]
search engine.
00:21:39 [Alison]
Right.
00:21:40 [Alison]
Because it’s a search engine.
00:21:41 [Alison]
So just to backpedal just a a bit, where what are all the places that we need to that content or text can go?
00:21:48 [Alison]
Like, caption, description, titles, board names.
00:21:53 [Nadalie]
What is what?
00:21:53 [Nadalie]
So your keywords need to be everywhere, especially if you are a local photographer.
00:22:01 [Nadalie]
Okay?
00:22:01 [Nadalie]
So if you can get it into your profile, even better.
00:22:05 [Nadalie]
Sometimes Pinterest doesn’t let you.
00:22:07 [Nadalie]
Sometimes it does.
00:22:08 [Nadalie]
That’s why sometimes you’ll see someone’s profile name is, like, super long and has, like, keywords in it.
00:22:13 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:22:14 [Nadalie]
Mostly it’s not letting you, but you can try.
00:22:16 [Nadalie]
Mhmm.
00:22:17 [Nadalie]
But you can definitely put it into your bio.
00:22:20 [Nadalie]
So name your city, name your region, name the type of photography that you do, and those should all be keywords.
00:22:27 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:22:29 [Nadalie]
If you get a banner image, don’t you can just be, like, a beautiful photo that like, if you’re a a family photographer or senior photographer, great.
00:22:38 [Nadalie]
Put that there.
00:22:39 [Nadalie]
But even better if you can just in some, like, pretty text, say, like, wedding photography in Toronto.
00:22:47 [Nadalie]
Like, that’s where I live.
00:22:48 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:22:48 [Nadalie]
Put that there.
00:22:50 [Nadalie]
Also your board names.
00:22:51 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:22:51 [Nadalie]
All of our board names should be keywords.
00:22:55 [Nadalie]
So what type of photography do you do?
00:22:57 [Nadalie]
You could even have boards for specific cities or specific locations.
00:23:02 [Nadalie]
I remember as a photographer Yep.
00:23:04 [Nadalie]
In Toronto, there were places that we always chose.
00:23:07 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:23:07 [Nadalie]
So, whether it’s a botanical garden or a really famous street or something that, you know, is a common location for photography Mhmm.
00:23:18 [Nadalie]
You’re using all those keywords.
00:23:20 [Nadalie]
So, like, even maternity shoot ideas, maybe you have a whole series of blog posts on that.
00:23:25 [Nadalie]
You could take a seasonal spin.
00:23:27 [Nadalie]
Spring, summer, winter, fall, like, it changes.
00:23:30 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:23:30 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:23:31 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:23:32 [Nadalie]
There’s so many ways that you can show off your work and be optimized for Pinterest.
00:23:37 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:23:37 [Nadalie]
So we’ve talked about the out.
00:23:38 [Nadalie]
We’ve talked about our boards.
00:23:40 [Nadalie]
And, of course, we need to optimize our pins, our pin title and our pin description.
00:23:44 [Nadalie]
This is also, I’d say in the last couple of years, Pinterest has been pulling open graph title and open graph descriptions and displaying that in place of your pin title and your pin description.
00:23:58 [Nadalie]
So for anyone who is the open graph description is essentially if you have an SEO plugin, it’s typically what you’re putting.
00:24:07 [Nadalie]
It’s gonna show up like, say, you share blog post or your page on social media, there’s a title, and then there’s usually that little blurb.
00:24:16 [Melissa]
Meta description.
00:24:17 [Melissa]
Yep.
00:24:17 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:24:18 [Nadalie]
It’s the meta description.
00:24:19 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:24:19 [Nadalie]
Or the Okay.
00:24:20 [Nadalie]
The title.
00:24:21 [Nadalie]
That is gonna be pulled over to Pinterest, unless you’re scheduling it directly on Pinterest, then you have more control over your pin titles and pin descriptions, which is why it’s important to optimize all of these places.
00:24:34 [Nadalie]
We need to optimize our metadata, our open graph titles, our open graph descriptions, because that displayed on Pinterest, okay, by default.
00:24:45 [Melissa]
And the thing I get too with your pins, unlike a blog where you wanna use one keyword on one blog post, I could have 10 pins that include my keyword on it, and it’s not gonna matter.
00:24:57 [Melissa]
Like, it’s gonna help versus it hinders on a blog.
00:25:00 [Melissa]
Right?
00:25:01 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:25:01 [Nadalie]
Like, your blog if we’re optimizing for Google SEO, typically, you wanna have that one primary keyword that’s also your URL.
00:25:08 [Nadalie]
It’s in your title.
00:25:09 [Nadalie]
It’s in your headings.
00:25:10 [Nadalie]
It’s throughout your content.
00:25:11 [Nadalie]
It’s in your meta description, all the places.
00:25:13 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:25:14 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:25:14 [Nadalie]
With Pinterest, that keyword also might not be the same.
00:25:18 [Nadalie]
The keyword may not be the same for Pinterest as it is for Google.
00:25:22 [Nadalie]
It might be similar.
00:25:23 [Nadalie]
It might be reverse, like, shot ideas for maternity.
00:25:26 [Nadalie]
Like like, it I don’t know what the keyword is for this, but you gotta check.
00:25:30 [Nadalie]
So for your pin, it can be slightly different.
00:25:34 [Nadalie]
I would also, encourage, like, experimenting with long tail keywords.
00:25:38 [Nadalie]
So a long tail keyword is three or more words.
00:25:42 [Nadalie]
So Mhmm.
00:25:42 [Nadalie]
Instead of just maternity shoot I or, like, maternity shoot ideas, maybe it’s maternity photo shoot ideas, outdoor, or unique, or studio, or at home.
00:25:54 [Nadalie]
Cuppa, I’m just literally words for y’all here.
00:25:56 [Nadalie]
With family.
00:25:57 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:25:59 [Nadalie]
So all of those could be separate pieces of content or portfolio pages.
00:26:04 [Nadalie]
Or if you have a nice roundup, you can try to target different keywords for different pins as long as what you have is actually like, don’t be using keywords that’s, like, with family when your photo Yeah.
00:26:20 [Nadalie]
Is just a couple.
00:26:21 [Nadalie]
Like, we don’t wanna be deceptive.
00:26:23 [Melissa]
Mhmm.
00:26:24 [Nadalie]
We wanna be accurate, with or then concise with our keyword choices.
00:26:29 [Nadalie]
So yeah.
00:26:30 [Nadalie]
Like, if That’s a lot.
00:26:32 [Nadalie]
Any you’re just putting the keywords in all the right places, y’all.
00:26:35 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:26:36 [Nadalie]
Like But Don’t skip a step.
00:26:38 [Nadalie]
It can feel repetitive, but you’re just, like, reassuring.
00:26:41 [Nadalie]
Think of it as, like, reassuring the algorithm.
00:26:44 [Nadalie]
Like, as if the algorithm was like, are you sure?
00:26:46 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:26:46 [Nadalie]
I’m
00:26:47 [Alison]
sure.
00:26:47 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:26:48 [Nadalie]
Is that the keyword?
00:26:49 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:26:49 [Nadalie]
It is.
00:26:50 [Alison]
So you meant yeah.
00:26:50 [Nadalie]
That’s it.
00:26:52 [Alison]
You mentioned earlier lifespan, twenty four peaking at twenty four months.
00:26:56 [Alison]
But how long does it realistic a pin to gain any amount of traction?
00:27:01 [Nadalie]
For sure.
00:27:02 [Nadalie]
So you’re gonna share that pin.
00:27:05 [Nadalie]
It’s gonna first show it to your followers.
00:27:07 [Nadalie]
They’re gonna see how they react.
00:27:09 [Nadalie]
The algorithm is gonna test to try to figure out, like, how like, if you read the engineering blog, essentially, on Pinterest, there’s, like, a giant think of it as, like, a huge map.
00:27:19 [Nadalie]
And on this map are all the keywords, and the algorithm is, like, deciding, like, the through the mapping, like, okay.
00:27:27 [Nadalie]
What is this what is this image?
00:27:28 [Nadalie]
What does this pin mean?
00:27:29 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:27:29 [Nadalie]
And they’re trying to, like, match up the pins with what people are searching.
00:27:34 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:27:34 [Nadalie]
So Mhmm.
00:27:35 [Nadalie]
Essentially, it does take a couple of weeks for a pin to be, like, fully indexed and to be Okay.
00:27:43 [Nadalie]
Shown up in search results.
00:27:46 [Nadalie]
The more engagement
00:27:47 [Alison]
Sounds like a blog
00:27:48 [Nadalie]
post.
00:27:48 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:27:49 [Nadalie]
The more engagement your pin gets, the higher it will rank in search results.
00:27:53 [Nadalie]
Right.
00:27:54 [Nadalie]
But, yeah, like, pins will continue to be found for literal years.
00:28:00 [Alison]
As illustrated since 2014.
00:28:03 [Nadalie]
Literal years.
00:28:04 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:28:05 [Nadalie]
Especially if you’ve optimized it properly.
00:28:08 [Nadalie]
Like, these types of best practices haven’t changed, are not going to change.
00:28:15 [Nadalie]
Right.
00:28:17 [Nadalie]
You know, because it’s a search engine.
00:28:19 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:28:19 [Nadalie]
And if you’re taking all the right steps, your pins will continue to be found.
00:28:24 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:28:25 [Alison]
That makes a lot of sense because general same thing can be said for other actual social media.
00:28:30 [Alison]
Right?
00:28:30 [Alison]
Like, the core is to keep you on the app and to have you social.
00:28:33 [Alison]
So that it makes a lot of sense that the core purpose of Pinterest is still the same.
00:28:38 [Alison]
And it’s also reassuring.
00:28:40 [Alison]
It’s reassuring.
00:28:40 [Alison]
I think
00:28:41 [Nadalie]
Like, to have people save your pins for later.
00:28:44 [Nadalie]
Like, that’s like, they’re collecting ideas.
00:28:47 [Nadalie]
Pinterest users are planning, whether, like you said, planning birthdays.
00:28:50 [Nadalie]
A lot of people plan, like, photoshoots around events.
00:28:54 [Nadalie]
Like, you need to take
00:28:55 [Alison]
it more personal.
00:28:56 [Alison]
Like, right now, like, we are I’ve I’ve got my first kids playing football ever.
00:29:00 [Alison]
Well, he’s in high school, and homecoming out here in Hawaii is a goal.
00:29:04 [Alison]
And I don’t know whose idea it was.
00:29:07 [Alison]
Thought a bunch of boys would like a decorated locker.
00:29:10 [Alison]
But they do.
00:29:11 [Alison]
And so we have I have to decorate my kids’ locker.
00:29:16 [Alison]
So what do I do?
00:29:17 [Alison]
I’ve got to go on, I’ve got a certain date.
00:29:19 [Alison]
I went to Pinterest, and lo and behold, the only people who have done it in a way, like, I found a local school who did it because there’s there’s homecoming decorations, and then there’s how to decorate your locker, But specifically decorating an athletic locker for homecoming is very narrow search on Pinterest.
00:29:39 [Alison]
And the only things I found are actually from Sister High School’s here on island, which was really cool.
00:29:43 [Alison]
But I saved them because their locker’s probably the same size as my locker, and I need she had lights.
00:29:49 [Alison]
Girl, y’all, she had lights.
00:29:52 [Alison]
I could we’re all over here.
00:29:54 [Alison]
We’re figuring it out.
00:29:55 [Alison]
We got time.
00:29:56 [Alison]
But I mean, you’re like, So
00:29:58 [Melissa]
But I love the the specificity of really, like, narrowing down to something, you know, for photographers, especially if you have a particular style.
00:30:06 [Melissa]
We were talking to a group in today, and she loves the grand millennial style.
00:30:09 [Melissa]
And I was like, girl, you need to put that on your website, you know, the Bridgerton style.
00:30:13 [Melissa]
I was like, because if you and I told her, I was like, you need to put stuff on Pinterest.
00:30:16 [Melissa]
Because if she starts pinning things to Pinterest that are really in that style and using those words that are very specific, there is someone out there looking for that.
00:30:25 [Melissa]
Someone out there wants a Bridgerton maternity shoot or, you know, a grand millennial newborn session like style.
00:30:32 [Melissa]
And that’s the kind of stuff that I love because Pinterest is where they’re gonna go.
00:30:36 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:30:36 [Alison]
And they’ll travel.
00:30:37 [Alison]
If they find you and you’re putting on you’re consistent and you’re reliable, they will travel and come to you to get what they want.
00:30:43 [Melissa]
Yeah.
00:30:44 [Melissa]
Especially if no one else is offering.
00:30:45 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:30:45 [Alison]
That’s right.
00:30:46 [Alison]
Okay.
00:30:46 [Alison]
So to take it to to kinda bring around to measurement and all those metrics, what metrics should be should we be looking at as business owners?
00:30:55 [Alison]
Because I’m in the back end right now on mine, and I just my eyes are glazing over.
00:31:01 [Nadalie]
For sure.
00:31:01 [Nadalie]
So we wanna look at, of course, overall growth.
00:31:06 [Nadalie]
Like, if we are pinning consistently, are more people seeing our pins, engaging with our pins?
00:31:14 [Nadalie]
Right.
00:31:16 [Nadalie]
We do wanna look beyond views.
00:31:18 [Nadalie]
Even though I will say views are an Indian of how well your account is going.
00:31:23 [Nadalie]
But views just in isolation isn’t as helpful, especially if you are pinning a lot of other people’s content.
00:31:31 [Nadalie]
So is this views of just your stuff, views with other people?
00:31:35 [Nadalie]
You wanna look to see which pins are actually getting engagement.
00:31:38 [Nadalie]
So engagement on Pinterest matters in terms of are people saving your pins?
00:31:43 [Nadalie]
Are people clicking on your pins and staying on your website for more than thirty seconds, for example?
00:31:49 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:31:49 [Nadalie]
Like, that’s something you can see in your Google Analytics.
00:31:52 [Nadalie]
But pins that are being saved, pins that are getting a lot of clicks, that’s an indication of, like, okay.
00:32:01 [Nadalie]
This is what people are interested in.
00:32:03 [Nadalie]
Let me create more content like this.
00:32:05 [Nadalie]
Like, I think we it’s almost like we’re trying to find the right recipe, like, the right coordinates.
00:32:12 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:32:13 [Nadalie]
And we’re seeing, like, okay.
00:32:15 [Nadalie]
In this direction, if I do more, like, listicles, if I do more roundups, or people are really into maternity, Knowing that with Pinterest, a lot of an or analytical data is going to have seasonal trends.
00:32:31 [Nadalie]
So, for example, even, like, photography is, like, very seasonal.
00:32:36 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:32:36 [Nadalie]
Like, there are certain times of year that people get engaged.
00:32:40 [Nadalie]
There are certain times of year where more babies are born.
00:32:44 [Nadalie]
And See, in the sessions.
00:32:46 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:32:46 [Nadalie]
Like, the types of shoots you do, change with the season.
00:32:50 [Nadalie]
So how a piece of content or even how your services are gonna perform is gonna change throughout the year.
00:32:57 [Nadalie]
So not just looking at how are my analytics today versus ninety days ago or thirty days ago, but how is it in comparison to a year ago?
00:33:08 [Nadalie]
Because when you can start to see how your business is trending in general, you’ll also see that on Pinterest.
00:33:17 [Nadalie]
Things are gonna go up.
00:33:18 [Nadalie]
Things are gonna go down.
00:33:19 [Nadalie]
But if you can cross compare to where you were a year ago, you can kind of see how things are going in general.
00:33:26 [Alison]
Sounds Yeah.
00:33:27 [Alison]
That makes a lot of sense.
00:33:29 [Nadalie]
And paying attention to the types of pins that are taking off in terms of design.
00:33:35 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:33:36 [Nadalie]
So if you are experimenting with what I call those title pins with text on them or image only or maybe you have collage pins or, maybe some of them are black and white.
00:33:48 [Nadalie]
Like, I don’t know.
00:33:49 [Nadalie]
Like, look at your analytics, and you will see, like, oh, wow.
00:33:53 [Nadalie]
There’s, like, a lot of this one type of pin.
00:33:56 [Nadalie]
Maybe I should make more of those.
00:33:57 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:33:58 [Nadalie]
Like, this interested in.
00:33:59 [Nadalie]
You have to figure out what’s working for you.
00:34:01 [Nadalie]
And the only way to do that is to, like, start and to, like, check-in
00:34:06 [Alison]
with the analytics.
00:34:07 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:34:08 [Alison]
Check-in.
00:34:08 [Alison]
Right?
00:34:08 [Alison]
Like, because I pin, and I don’t look.
00:34:10 [Alison]
So there you go.
00:34:12 [Alison]
So how long should someone give before they decide if it’s working or not?
00:34:19 [Nadalie]
Realistically, I would say, like, six months is a good experiment, but it’s not gonna take six months for you to, like, get results.
00:34:26 [Nadalie]
Like Right.
00:34:27 [Nadalie]
Something I say like, I have a Pinterest course, and when I look at the testimonials from my students, within thirty days, they are seeing
00:34:33 [Melissa]
Wow.
00:34:34 [Nadalie]
Movement.
00:34:35 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:34:35 [Nadalie]
So whether that account was old and ghosted or it’s a new account, like, we do you do get, like, big gains in the beginning because usually we’re starting from flatlined.
00:34:46 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:34:47 [Alison]
Right.
00:34:48 [Nadalie]
But then, like, there’s that huge initial, like, huge spike, and it’s through consistency that we can continue to grow it.
00:34:55 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:34:55 [Nadalie]
So And
00:34:55 [Melissa]
how often do you recommend pinning?
00:34:57 [Melissa]
Like, is it every week, every month?
00:34:59 [Melissa]
Is there a certain amount?
00:35:01 [Nadalie]
I at least once a day.
00:35:03 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:35:03 [Nadalie]
And we don’t need to be doing that in real time.
00:35:06 [Nadalie]
You can literally just schedule it and have it off your plate.
00:35:11 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:35:11 [Alison]
And Pinterest has a native scheduler now.
00:35:14 [Alison]
Correct?
00:35:15 [Alison]
You don’t have to have
00:35:15 [Nadalie]
a third party.
00:35:16 [Nadalie]
That’s been there for a couple years now.
00:35:18 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:35:19 [Nadalie]
But you can only pin thirty days out and a 100 pins scheduled at a time.
00:35:23 [Nadalie]
So if you’re gonna be doing one, two pins a day, you can do that.
00:35:30 [Nadalie]
I would encourage you like, a problem I see with, product sellers or, like, people of, like, Etsy shops, for example, is that they get into this habit of just dumping a whole bunch of pins and then running away it is better to put those into a scheduler and to have it like just come out consistently as opposed to you just like dumping everything you have and then running
00:35:55 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:35:55 [Alison]
Which is kinda weird.
00:35:57 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:35:57 [Nadalie]
So You know?
00:35:58 [Alison]
Last question for now.
00:36:00 [Alison]
What are you seeing and there’s different types of pens.
00:36:03 [Alison]
We got that.
00:36:04 [Alison]
Any sort of particular design trend or any sort of content for the pen that’s working best at the moment?
00:36:13 [Nadalie]
It honestly varies niche to niche.
00:36:15 [Nadalie]
And Okay.
00:36:16 [Nadalie]
I would even say, like, keyword to keyword.
00:36:19 [Nadalie]
But literally just, like, poking around on Pinterest looking at, like, photography, it’s gonna be, like, those stunning images.
00:36:25 [Nadalie]
Mhmm.
00:36:26 [Nadalie]
And I would say I feel like we are going to hit the point where people are tired of AI.
00:36:34 [Nadalie]
So show your bef, and y’all are the experts at that.
00:36:39 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:36:39 [Nadalie]
Like, nothing this AI image does not compare to a real life couple, like maternity shoot, for example.
00:36:46 [Nadalie]
Like, it’s not the same.
00:36:50 [Nadalie]
Especially with photography, it’s photo first.
00:36:54 [Nadalie]
I don’t I like, this is something I’ve, observed from the beginning, like, when I because I’m re always, like, popping around and seeing, like, okay.
00:37:02 [Nadalie]
What’s working for, like, real estate agents or what’s working for this?
00:37:06 [Nadalie]
And I’ve noticed for photography, it’s very much about the image, which makes sense because it’s photography.
00:37:13 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:37:13 [Nadalie]
So, yeah, get your photos up here.
00:37:17 [Nadalie]
Just optimize the lead.
00:37:18 [Nadalie]
I’d say, like, that’s gonna win in the at the end of the day is, like, you just showing up with your your shots.
00:37:27 [Nadalie]
You know?
00:37:28 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:37:28 [Alison]
That’s awesome.
00:37:29 [Alison]
Alright.
00:37:29 [Alison]
Well, thank you.
00:37:30 [Alison]
Okay.
00:37:30 [Alison]
So, Natalie excuse me.
00:37:33 [Alison]
Okay.
00:37:33 [Alison]
So thank you, Natalie.
00:37:34 [Alison]
That was awesome.
00:37:35 [Alison]
Where can our listeners find you?
00:37:38 [Nadalie]
For sure.
00:37:39 [Nadalie]
So you can find me at yourpincoach.com.
00:37:43 [Nadalie]
And I think for this episode, my Pinterest profile setup checklist is going to be helpful.
00:37:50 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:37:50 [Nadalie]
So we’ll make sure you have the link for that.
00:37:53 [Nadalie]
And I honestly, I walk you through everything you need, whether you’re creating a new account, revitalizing one you ghosted, or if you’re ready to convert that personal one into a business account.
00:38:07 [Nadalie]
Let me walk you through those steps, and we’ll they’ll make sure you have the links.
00:38:12 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:38:13 [Alison]
I’m gonna need that myself because I haven’t touched my profile in I don’t know how many years, so I’m sure it needs a refresh.
00:38:19 [Alison]
So I’ll be downloading that myself.
00:38:21 [Alison]
And you mentioned a course.
00:38:22 [Alison]
What kind of course do you have?
00:38:23 [Nadalie]
For sure.
00:38:24 [Nadalie]
So my program is called Pin Popular, and it’s built for whether you’re an online creator or seller or service provider.
00:38:34 [Nadalie]
As I mentioned, like, when I first started, this was a program for bloggers because I was a blogger.
00:38:40 [Nadalie]
But my students are now in a variety of niches.
00:38:45 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:38:45 [Nadalie]
We have content creators, we have online sellers, and we have service providers.
00:38:50 [Nadalie]
And I’m teaching you how you can build a dependable system that’s built on Pinterest that is going to reliably send you traffic, subscribers, and sales.
00:39:04 [Nadalie]
Pinterest is the top of funnel, and when you realize that and you start consistently sharing just what you have.
00:39:13 [Nadalie]
Right?
00:39:13 [Nadalie]
And what you have is beautiful photography and packaging that and getting into the habit of consistently sharing is a way that you can grow your business.
00:39:27 [Nadalie]
And it only requires a few hours a month.
00:39:30 [Nadalie]
Okay?
00:39:30 [Nadalie]
It takes way less energy than running your Instagram account.
00:39:34 [Nadalie]
And if we think about where are people looking for photography inspiration, it is not on Instagram.
00:39:41 [Nadalie]
It is not.
00:39:42 [Nadalie]
People save things on Instagram.
00:39:44 [Nadalie]
I don’t even know where my saved folder how do I even get back there?
00:39:47 [Nadalie]
Like, can we be honest?
00:39:49 [Nadalie]
I don’t even know how to find it.
00:39:50 [Alison]
Don’t even try.
00:39:51 [Nadalie]
And, you know, when people are planning these life moments, getting married, you know, their kid being a certain age, a new season of their life, they are going to Pinterest.
00:40:05 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:40:05 [Nadalie]
So, you know, I think if you wanna connect with those people Yeah.
00:40:11 [Nadalie]
My my course is there to help you figure that out.
00:40:12 [Alison]
So well said.
00:40:14 [Alison]
So well said, Natalie.
00:40:15 [Alison]
Well, thank you so much for being here.
00:40:16 [Alison]
And, guys, there’s going to be a part two to this that is more specific to being a local service provider.
00:40:23 [Alison]
So make sure you come back and listen to that episode with Natalie.
00:40:27 [Alison]
Thank you so much for being here.
00:40:29 [Alison]
We really appreciate your time and you sharing your expertise with us.
00:40:33 [Melissa]
Thank you.
00:40:33 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:40:34 [Alison]
Alright.
00:40:37 [Alison]
Cool.
00:40:37 [Alison]
Good job, guys.
00:40:39 [Melissa]
Okay
00:40:39 [Melissa]
Do we want to actually do a new room in case the longer thing like, if somebody gets hung up on uploading?
00:40:46 [Melissa]
So do you just wanna end up with that?
00:40:49 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:40:49 [Alison]
Okay.
00:40:50 [Alison]
So, yeah, this is a probably a good thing to do, technically, Natalie.
00:40:54 [Alison]
It has taken, like, way too long to export and upload longer on sometimes.
00:40:59 [Alison]
And so
00:41:00 [Melissa]
it yeah.
00:41:02 [Melissa]
Okay.
00:41:02 [Nadalie]
Do you wanna send me a new link, or is it
00:41:05 [Alison]
the same?
00:41:05 [Alison]
I’ll I’ll it’ll be a new link, I think, and I will just email it like I did earlier.
00:41:10 [Alison]
It’ll probably give me five minutes to get it together.
00:41:12 [Nadalie]
Do you wanna recap at five or on the hour?
00:41:16 [Nadalie]
Because there’s nine minutes to whatever.
00:41:17 [Nadalie]
Yeah.
00:41:18 [Alison]
And I wanna get more coffee anyway.
00:41:20 [Nadalie]
So Yeah.
00:41:20 [Nadalie]
Okay.
00:41:21 [Nadalie]
Reconvene?
00:41:22 [Alison]
Yep.
00:41:22 [Alison]
Yeah.
00:41:22 [Alison]
Let’s do it.
00:41:23 [Alison]
Awesome.
00:41:23 [Alison]
Okay.
00:41:23 [Alison]
Alright.
00:41:24 [Alison]
Thanks.
00:41:24 [Alison]
See you
00:41:24 [Melissa]
soon.
00:41:25 [Melissa]
Bye.
