I'm Melissa Arlena(my friends call me Mel) and I help photographers get found on Google.
Read more about me

Let’s be honest — I see this all the time in the photography industry. Photographers are spending hours writing the same boring session shares over and over again – tossing a bunch of photos into a blog post, adding three sentences about the family, slapping their main keyword in the title, and hitting publish. Then they wonder why their blog isn’t booking them any clients.
In reality, those generic session shares aren’t helping anyone. Not your SEO, not your potential clients, and definitely not your booking calendar. After 17+ years in photography and helping hundreds of photographers transform their businesses through strategic blogging, I’ve learned there are more effective photography blog content ideas that actually work.
But before we dive in—Hi! I’m Melissa, and I’m an SEO expert here to help portrait photographers finally get found by their dream clients on Google—without the technical overwhelm. Whether you need done-for-you SEO services, step-by-step coaching through my proven system, or monthly blogging strategies (like my Blogging Club membership!), I’ve got the tools to transform your invisible website into a client-attracting machine. Ready to stop being the best-kept secret in your market?
If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to listen to the full podcast episode where Alison & I break down all these strategies in detail. But if you’re ready to get straight to the actionable stuff, this blog post lays it all out for you step-by-step. Either way, you’re going to walk away with concrete strategies you can implement right away.
Before we dive into the good stuff, let’s talk about what you need to stop doing immediately.
Don’t just shove stacks of photos into a blog post with three sentences about the family and call it a day. This isn’t helpful content – it’s just a digital photo dump.
Stop using your homepage keywords in every blog post. If “Austin Texas Family Photographer” is your main portfolio page keyword, don’t plaster it all over your blog posts. You’re competing with yourself!
Quit writing boring content that only past clients care about. Future clients don’t know the Jones family, and they don’t care about their personal story unless you make it relevant to them.

Here’s what I want you to do instead: Look at each session and ask yourself, “What made this session special?” Was it the location? The time of day? The outfits? The styling?
Turn these elements into helpful FAQ-style content that future clients actually want to read.
Let’s say Mama Jones absolutely killed it with her family’s outfits. Instead of writing “The Jones Family Session,” reach out to her and ask:
Now you can write a post titled “How to Style Your Family Photos Like a Pro” featuring Mama Jones as your example. Trust me, she’s going to share that post with everyone because you just positioned her as a styling expert!

Once you’ve covered the basics, here are some creative or advanced ideas that position you as an expert.
Here’s where most photographers miss the boat – they write helpful content but forget to sell themselves. You have to ask for the sale!
Multiple Call-to-Action Buttons: Throughout your post, include buttons like:
Author Introduction: Don’t assume people know who you are. Include a brief bio that establishes your expertise and includes a contact button.

Lead Magnet Offers: Instead of “Join my email list,” offer something valuable like:
You can still optimize these helpful posts for search without keyword stuffing:

Feeling overwhelmed by all these photography blog content ideas? This is exactly why I created The Blogging Club – to give photographers monthly content outlines and step-by-step guidance for creating posts that actually attract clients. No more staring at blank screens wondering what to write!
Each strategic photography blog post becomes a content goldmine:
Link to relevant posts in your client communications:
Pull 3-4 Instagram posts from each blog article:
Create a private client dashboard linking to all your helpful posts – what to wear guides, timeline planners, session prep tips.
When you use these strategic photography blog content ideas, several powerful things happen:
You become the authority instead of sending clients to someone else’s resources. Your what-to-wear advice reflects your shooting style and local conditions.

You attract backlinks when other professionals discover and link to your helpful content. I’ve seen huge traffic boosts from posts that became industry resources.
You build trust with potential clients who discover you’re not just a photographer – you’re an expert who helps them succeed.
You create evergreen content that continues attracting clients long after you hit publish, unlike social media posts that disappear in days.
Here’s what I want you to do this week:

Ready to transform your photography blog from a photo dump into a client-attracting machine? My Done-for-You SEO Services can help you create a content strategy that positions you as the obvious choice in your market while you focus on what you do best – photography.
