Are you tired of sending out quote after quote only to never hear back from potential clients? The solution might be simpler than you think! Inquiry response videos have transformed my photography business by helping me connect with clients from the very first interaction, and they can do the same for you.
In this post, I’ll share how using personalized video responses has helped me stand out from competitors, create genuine connections with clients, and significantly increase my booking rate.
But before we dive in—Hi! I’m Melissa, and I’m an SEO expert here to help portrait photographers finally get found by their dream clients on Google—without the technical overwhelm. Whether you need done-for-you SEO services, step-by-step coaching through my proven system, or monthly blogging strategies (like my Blogging Club membership!), I’ve got the tools to transform your invisible website into a client-attracting machine. Ready to stop being the best-kept secret in your market?
If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to listen to the full podcast episode where we break down all these strategies in detail. But if you’re ready to get straight to the actionable stuff, this blog post lays it all out for you step-by-step. Either way, you’re going to walk away with concrete strategies you can implement right away.
One of my biggest pet peeves in client acquisition is how forgettable most photographers make themselves! Think about your own experience searching for a photographer – you inquire with several promising options at once, and within days, you can’t remember which website belonged to which photographer.
When you show your face through video, you instantly become memorable. Your potential client can connect your work with your personality, making you stand out from the crowd of text-only responses.
Text and emails can’t convey your enthusiasm, personality, and genuine excitement for a client’s session. Video allows potential clients to hear your tone of voice, see your expressions, and connect with you on a much deeper level.
I’ve received countless comments from clients saying, “I loved your video!” or “You seem so fun in your video!” These connections happen even in brief one-minute videos and often make the difference in booking decisions.
Perhaps the most powerful benefit of video is that it allows you to speak directly to all decision-makers involved. When a mom inquires about a family session, she typically has to relay your information to her spouse or, for extended family sessions, to multiple family members involved in the decision.
With video, you become your own advocate. The inquiring client simply shares your video with others, allowing you to present your own information exactly as intended. This eliminates the “telephone game” where details get lost or miscommunicated.
You don’t need expensive equipment or complex editing software to get started with inquiry response videos. Here are the essentials:
Loom is an incredibly versatile video recording platform perfect for inquiry responses that offers:
The free version allows up to 25 videos, making it perfect for testing the waters without financial commitment.
The perfect inquiry response video should be concise yet informative. Here’s a simple structure that works beautifully:
I try to aim for as close to 5 min as I can get. You can always also invite them to jump on a phone call if more needs to be covered.
Here’s a framework I use for my own inquiry response videos:
“Hi [Name]! I’m Melissa, and I’m so excited you reached out about [type of session they inquired about]. I noticed you mentioned [personal detail from their inquiry] – that’s wonderful!
As a photographer with over 15 years of experience and a mom myself, I understand how important these moments are to capture. What makes my approach different is [brief unique selling proposition].
Let me walk you through working with me! [Then I walk them through my pricing page]”
This simple formula takes less than 10 minutes to deliver but makes a powerful impression that text alone simply can’t match.
While inquiry response videos make the biggest initial impact, here are other powerful ways to incorporate video throughout your client experience:
Once a client books, send a personalized video that:
Create evergreen videos showcasing your products and explaining your process:
This allows clients to see me in the corner of the screen while viewing detailed product information.
Use quick videos to answer client questions or provide suggestions:
For maximum efficiency, keep some of these videos generic (without specific client names) so they can be reused for future clients with similar questions.
Speed matters! I aim to respond to all inquiries within 24 hours. When clients comment “Wow, that was quick!” it signals they’re still actively considering photographers and you’re top of mind.
Don’t hide behind an overly professional façade. Potential clients want to see the real you, not a polished corporate version. If you’re fun and energetic in person, let that shine through in your inquiry response videos!
Use your inquiry videos to highlight what makes your photography business unique. Perhaps it’s your signature style, your client experience, or your product offerings. Make these differentiators clear from the first interaction.
Respect your clients’ time. For a quick hello + next steps inquiry response, aim for 60-90 seconds. Remember: shorter is often better, especially for initial contact. If you are going over pricing like I do try to stick to as close to 5 minutes as you can.
While looking presentable matters, don’t let not having makeup on or being perfectly styled prevent you from creating timely inquiry response videos. Authenticity and responsiveness matter more than perfect styling!
Real Photographer Experience:
The proof is in the results! Here are some real outcomes photographers are seeing after implementing inquiry response videos:
One of my own clients shared this experience after receiving an inquiry response video: “That video was amazing! No other photographer did anything like that. We want to work with you!” She booked a complete baby plan membership after seeing my personalized video response to her inquiry.
I even had a client who owned his own business and was so impressed with my inquiry response video that he showed it to his entire staff as an example of excellent customer communication!
Remember, your first inquiry response video won’t be perfect – and that’s completely fine! With practice, you’ll get more comfortable and refine your approach. The important thing is to start connecting with potential clients in this powerful way.
