If you’ve ever wondered whether a keyword is actually worth targeting, or if anyone’s even searching for it, you’re not alone. That’s exactly the kind of question that used to send me down a rabbit hole in Google Ads Keyword Planner. But then I found Keywords Everywhere, and honestly, it changed the way I do keyword research for myself and for my clients.
In this post, I’m breaking down exactly what the Keywords Everywhere extension does, why I use it every single day, and how you can start using it to find the right SEO keywords for your photography website and blog. Whether you’re brand new to SEO or you’ve been at it a while, this tool makes keyword research so much easier.
But before we dive in—Hi! I’m Melissa—an SEO expert helping portrait photographers get found by dream clients on Google, without the tech overwhelm. Whether you want done-for-you services, coaching, or blogging strategies, I’ve got you covered. Ready to stop being the best-kept secret in your market?

Keywords Everywhere is a browser plugin that you can install on Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Once it’s set up, it works right inside your normal Google search. You type in a keyword, and right there underneath your search, you’ll see data like monthly search volume and trend information. No extra tabs, no complicated dashboards. It just shows up where you’re already searching.
Before tools like Keywords Everywhere existed, you’d have to dig through Google Ads Keyword Planner or check your Google Search Console just to get a sense of what people were actually searching. Search Console is great for seeing what you’re already ranking for, but it doesn’t help much when you want to find new keywords to target. That’s where the Keywords Everywhere extension really shines. It helps you figure out what people are actively searching for right now, and what the trends have looked like over time.
If you click on their pricing page for Keywords Everywhere, you’ll see different plans ranging from $7-120/month. For my SEO agency, we bought 400,000 credits back in May of last year. We still have around 250,000 left, and I don’t bother turning it on or off. It’s always on. So if I’m searching for my kids’ school lunch menu, which I really don’t care about the keyword data for, it’s taking a credit, but I have so many that it just doesn’t bother me. It’s a very affordable keyword research tool.
Here’s the thing that makes this tool so practical: you don’t have to learn a whole new platform. You just search Google like you normally would, and Keywords Everywhere layers the data right on top.
When you type in a keyword, the search volume shows up right underneath your query at the top of the results page. So if you search something like “Charlottesville newborn photographer,” you’ll immediately see the amount of searches it gets a month. And if you search something broader like “newborn photography,” you’re going to see a much higher number.
This is really helpful because it gives you a reality check. You might assume a keyword gets tons of traffic, but it turns out nobody’s searching for it. Or you might find that a keyword you hadn’t considered actually has solid volume. Either way, you’re making decisions based on real data instead of guessing.
Now here’s one of my favorite parts of this tool. When you search a keyword in Google with the Keywords Everywhere extension turned on, a whole new section appears on the right-hand side of your search results. It shows you things like “people also search for” and related keywords, each with their own search volume data.
This is gold for content planning. When we’re doing keyword research for clients, we’ll take their top keywords, type them into Google, and then go through those sidebars carefully. We call it “hand jamming” because we’re plugging keywords in by hand and scouring the suggestions. Sometimes those sidebars surface keywords you’d never think of on your own.
It’s not limited to photography keywords either. Let’s say you’re writing a blog post about date night ideas in your city. You can type that into Google, and the sidebar will give you ideas for related topics and keywords that could work alongside it.
The sidebar also includes trend charts. These are little graphs that show you how a keyword’s search volume changes month by month. This is incredibly useful. For example, if you search “pictures with Santa,” you’ll see that it gets tons of traffic from about July through December, but then drops off early in the year. If you searched that keyword in May, you might think it’s not worth targeting. But the trend chart tells the full story.
I also love using the trend data when a client says their traffic has dipped. Sometimes it’s not their website. It’s just the keyword itself losing volume during that time of year. The trends help you see the bigger picture instead of making changes based on one month of data.
Here’s a tip that a lot of people don’t realize: When you search your target keyword and your competitors show up on the page, Keywords Everywhere can show you information about those competitors, including links to their backlink data through Moz. Then, you can go get yourself one too!
Why does that matter? Because backlinks are one of the biggest factors in your domain authority, and knowing where your competitors are getting theirs gives you ideas of how you can do the same. You can click through and see where they got featured and then you can go after some similar opportunities.
I’ll give you a real example. I once came across a photographer who had a really strong domain ranking. When I looked at her backlinks, she had links from a bunch of high-authority recipe sites. She’d left comments with her website link on those blogs. It was working for her, so I went and did the same thing. Free backlinks with good domain authority? I’ll take that every time.
One more thing worth mentioning. Keywords Everywhere has a little dropdown (it shows up in your toolbar as the letter K) where you can change your search location. You can set it to the US, Canada, Australia, or even worldwide.
This is really important if you work with clients in different countries. I’ve definitely made the mistake of researching keywords for a US client while the tool was still set to a different country from a previous project. The search volumes didn’t look right, and it took me a minute to realize what happened. If you want to play it safe, setting it to worldwide works too.
So here’s my honest Keywords Everywhere review: it’s one of the best values in SEO tools, period. The pricing is very affordable. They have a lower-tier plan that’s billed annually, and it comes with 100,000 credits. One credit equals one search. For the full pricing breakdown, check out the Keywords Everywhere pricing page.
And those credits go a long way. You can even turn the extension on and off so you’re not using credits on random searches. For our agency, we bought a larger credit package over a year ago and we still have more than half left, even without turning it off. So it really does stretch far.
I use Keywords Everywhere every single day. It’s part of how I do SEO audits, how I research blog topics for clients, and how I figure out which keywords are actually worth going after. Whether you’re searching for your main service keywords or looking up blog post ideas, this tool gives you real numbers to work with instead of guesswork.
If you want to take your keyword research even further, my keyword research course walks you through the entire process using this exact tool. I’ve created a spreadsheet that lets you input the cities you serve and the genres you shoot, and it auto-populates all the keyword combinations for you. Then I show you how to research them in bulk so you can get all of your keyword research done in about an hour.
We cover everything from finding the right keywords for your website pages to building out a huge list of blog post topics based on what people are actually searching. If Keywords Everywhere is the tool, the course is the system that ties it all together.
